Seminars by some of SA’s leading technical divers…
Following the success of the 2010 event, Divestyle will once again be hosting these knowledgeable and renowned speakers who are specialists in their field:




Barry Coleman, who lead the exploration dive team to enter the wreck of the Oceanos,  member of the design team for the Mk6 Discovery and  RAID Training representative, will speak about rebreathers, rebreather training and his infamous Oceanos dive. The planning and logistics alone are something we mere recreational divers won’t even contemplate..




Nuno Gomes the current world record holder of two Guinness World records. The first one is the deepest in-land record (282,60m) in Boesmansgat in the 1996 as well as deepest sea dive (318,25m) which he obtained in 2005 in the Red Sea.  He will tell us what preparation and training went into his world record dives, both physical and physiological.




Don Shirley is South Africa’s guru on Closed and Semi-closed circuit rebreathers. The topics he will be covering are “Rebreathers – The good, bad and ugly” and “Behind the light zone”.  Most of us know just enough about rebreathers to be dangerous.  This will be very informative and take you up one level to be a novice about rebreathers talk.




Fiona Ayerst has chosen underwater photography to fill her world as she believes that the oceans are magical and powerful    dreamlike places.They are Fiona’s sanctuary. South Africa has such a huge and incredible coastline with a wealth of diverse creatures and activities and Fiona would like to show some of our awesome country to the rest of the world through her pictures . Fiona would love to entice many people here to dive and photograph our oceans, with her - gliding through our unique underwater realm capturing images.

She won the largest and most prestigious African photography competition for wildlife photographers – the  FUJI Wildlife photographer of the year award in 2003




Gabby Metcalf has been working in the dive industry for more than 15 years and is the Owner of Sandton Scuba in Bryanston, Johannesburg.  She has a passion for underwater Videography and Photography and if you talk to her, you will hear her dedication to preserving the underwater environment for future generations.  With her world-wide travels she has honed her skill with the video camera and has perfected it to an art.  Her talk will help all budding videographers to choose the right equipment and get that perfect clip.
